TEXAS STORM SHELTER REBATE

Some Texas cities and counties have organized FEMA rebate programs to help with the cost of owning a safe room. The funding ultimately comes from FEMA in the form of grants and rebates, but the application process and administration of the various programs comes from the cities, counties, group of counties or state that want to provide their citizens with protection from tornadoes and other natural disasters. Some of the storm shelter rebate administrators in Texas have been, among others, the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission and the North Central Texas Council of Governments. You can also contact the office of the Texas Division of Emergency Management, where the State Hazard Mitigation Officer (SHMO) can be reached for further information about past, present and future rebate programs. FEMA maintains a current list of SHMOs on their website here.
