Is it safe to hide in a bathtub during a tornado? We recently had a customer ask us about hiding in a bathtub, and if that is a safe option. Here’s what we had to say: The safest place to be during a tornado is in an NSSA (National Storm Shelter Association) verified storm shelter, like ours at Tornado Alley Armor.
If you don’t have a tornado shelter at home, the safest place to take cover from a tornado would be on the lower level of a building in a room with the most interior walls. If your bathroom lacks windows and is surrounded by interior walls then, yes, the bathtub might be a safe place to hide during a tornado. If you find yourself taking shelter in a bathtub, you may want to cover yourself with blankets and/or a mattress to protect yourself from any debris.
The most basic idea to remember when hiding from a tornado is that you want as many walls as possible separating you from the tornado, but why take chances? Our storm shelters have been tested and proven to withstand an EF-5 tornado no matter where they are located.
